what should be expected after radiation and chemo therapy treatment for anal cancer?

my husbands last treatment was the second week in january. He spent a week in the hospital for severe burns of the butt cheeck in January. He was released with healing burns and told he should feel alot better in the weeks ahead. It is about a month later the burns are healed but he is in severe pain internally. Pain gets worse during and after bowel movements as well as urinating.Is this normal?
