World wide headlines were made last year by a ten year old who supposedly had breast cancer.

It was later found that while she had cancer in her breast, the cancer she had was a childhood cancer that happenned to occur there, not the adult form of breast cancer.

There have been cases where girls in their mid - late teens have been diagnosed but it is extremely rare.

Add: I accept April's better knowledge of this patient than mine, (brave lady, both April & this little girl!) but would like to point out that secretory carcinoma was origionally known as juvenile carcinoma of the breast as while rare, it was first thought to only occur in children. It can occur in children as young as 3, and average age at diagnosis is 25. This is not the same cancer as ductal carcinoma or lobula carcinoma, the 2 main cancers commonly referred to as breast cancer.

Hannah Powell Auslam, from CA, was 10 years old when diagnosed with breast cancer, just last year.

Here's her blogsite: http://www.ourlittlesweetpea.com

Well, site has difficulties. Here's a little more info, more recent...The form of breast cancer that Hannah had, secretory carcinoma, has been found in only a few hundred cases of young girls, representing less than .1 percent of all breast cancers, according to the National Institutes of Health.

From tumor-removal to mastectomy to removal of the four cancerous lymph nodes under her arms and an exhausting 12 weeks of chemo, Hannah braved it all and even invited us to be there as her friends threw her a party where they shaved her head and showed their support.

Secretory Carcinoma of the breast is definitey breast cancer.
